Defining the Terms

E

Explicit

In the context of communication, we define explicit based on how information is presented. Information is explicit when it is stated clearly, directly, and in detail. Nothing is left to interpretation or guesswork. Example: I am frustated because the project deadline was moved up (The cause and emotion are stated clearly).

I

Implicit

In the context of communication, we define implicit based on how information is presented. Information is implicit when it is suggested, or understood without being directly stated. It relies on context, assumption, or inference. Example: A perrson sighs heavily, stares at the clock, and closes their laptop (The frustration is implied by his behavior even though he did not explicitly say that).
